TERRA NOVA: An Open-Architecture Universe for Games, Storytelling, XR and Creative Media
Abstract
This paper presents Terra Nova as a transmedia world-building framework rather than a finished narrative or a single entertainment product. Designed as an open-architecture universe, Terra Nova provides a structured yet expandable foundation for future creative development across multiple media: games, XR environments, serialized storytelling, interactive fiction, and other artistic or technological formats. At its core, the framework establishes a coherent internal logic grounded in speculative science, portal-based physics, planetary ecology, sociopolitical systems, and layered historical narratives.
Unlike conventional fictional settings, Terra Nova operates as a systemic environment where every faction, mechanic, and narrative element emerges from functional principles rather than stylistic choice. The world is built on a tri-layered interpretation of truth — official history, suppressed counter-history, and a deeper ontological layer — unlocked progressively through story progression or platform adaptation. The ecosystem includes a resource-based technological framework, ten distinct corporate ideologies shaping social order, and a class system engineered as biotechnological adaptations rather than archetypal roles.
This approach positions Terra Nova as a creative infrastructure: a universe where designers, writers, developers, and studios can build new content while preserving internal consistency. The result is a scalable narrative environment capable of supporting multiplayer game systems, narrative branching, XR immersion, and long-term world evolution. The paper outlines the principles, structure, and creative potential of Terra Nova, proposing it as a foundation for future transmedia collaboration.
